Dr Rebecca Edgar

Rebecca completed her studies at Deakin University near Melbourne, Australia. She obtained both a masters and PhD in the lab of Professor Tania de Koning-Ward where her work focused on the aminopeptidases at the end stage of haemoglobin digestion in Plasmodium falciparum. Here she was able to genetically and chemically validate these enzymes as potential novel antimalarial drug targets. In 2023 she moved to the University of Dundee in Scotland to join the lab of Professor Marcus Lee where she continues to focus on identifying potentials novel drug targets. Her current projects range from identifying new kinase targets to novel imaging assays with a particular interest in how novel compounds can help to deconvolute basic biology. Today she will be focusing on work surrounding the apicoplast as both a potential drug target and mechanism of resistance.
