Ana Rivero did the PhD at Imperial College (Silwood Park) working on the behavioural ecology of parasitic wasps. It was during her post-doc with Andrew Read at Edinburgh that she became fascinated with mosquitoes and malaria. Her first love was rodent malaria, but when she discovered the advantages of working on avian malaria (one can work in the field! and in the lab! with the natural vector!) She switched. She’s particularly interested in exploring the genetic and environmental sources of heterogeneity in parasite virulence and transmission. She mostly works on avian malaria although she recently sold her soul to the devil (needs must to get grants!) and has a couple of ongoing projects on humans and mice.
