Claire completed her PhD with Geoff McFadden at the University of Melbourne, where she performed a genetic screen in malaria parasites that identified new apicoplast putative membrane transporters. In 2017, Claire joined Oliver Billker for a postdoc at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and designed a sex-specific genetic screen for fertility genes in Plasmodium berghei. To conduct the screen, Claire relocated to Umeå University with the Billker Lab, and has now identified hundreds of fertility genes that are being investigated for new insights into transmission biology.
